[Matt about shrieks, eyes widening, and he curls away from the claws. He's half awake, and for just a moment, he thinks he sees purple with the claws, but his brain catches up to his panic, and he remembers how to breathe. He still looks pretty panicked.]
Yeah, it's me, Ren. Pidge's brother. I can... go if you want, sorry. I swear I didn't mean to intrude on anything!
[ Ren takes a seat beside him with a sigh, tailing wrapping around himself. ]
It's about Katie. [ He explains by way of warning. If Matt didn't want to hear about his sister's love drama, that was understandable. ] I ended up coming back, as you can see, and came here first thing. But we ended up...kind of having an argument. Mostly because I panicked and was an asshole.
[Matt winces. He's been on the wrong end of Pidge's temper a time or two.]
What kind of asshole? Pidge... does have a bit of a temper, but I can tell you that it burns out quickly. She does realize she's overreacted, but sometimes she needs a bit of time.
More like... She was trying to explain what happened during the triple moon while I was gone and how she had someone she's interested in in addition to me and I kind of...jumped to conclusions and accused her of looking for an excuse to ditch me and go to someone else.
[ Ren apparently expects some sort of punch for that, judging by the wary glance he sends Matt as he tenses up. He'd deserve it, honestly. ]
[Matt's not the kind to deck someone. He never has been, and never will be. He winces a bit at Ren's story, then shakes his head.]
Oh, definitely not. Pidge sticks by the people she cares about, no matter what. She missed you so much when you were gone. Half the reason I'm here is I didn't really like the thought of her being alone when she was hurting.
[He's missed enough of that, he's not going let her hurt alone if he's anywhere near.]
She'll be alright. If she really didn't want you around... she would probably have literally tossed you out. Honestly, I can tell you love her, and that's what really matters.
[ surprisingly, that makes him feel better. if anyone knew Pidge, it was her brother. ]
I love her more than anything else. I meant it when I told her I wanted to go back to your world with her. I...wasn't a good person before I met Katie. She makes me want to be better...Believe that I can be better.
So when I thought that she'd decided she didn't want me anymore... It'd hurt less if she just hit me and got it over with.
I have complete confidence that Pidge would kick you in the balls and bayard you sterile if you hurt her. She doesn't actually need my help on that one.
I don't think it would be necessary, though. I can tell she loves you, and you love her. That's all I could ever ask for. Make sure she's alright, as much as she lets anyone make sure she's alright.

It's only as he's crossing through the living room that he spots the lump on the couch. Was that person there when he came in...?
In a flash Ren is at the couch, claws extended, hand hovering just over Matt's throat where he's ripped the blanket away.
Except...he vaguely remembers that face from their meeting before he left. ]
...Matt?

[ Well, he'd jumped to even more conclusions tonight. Ren retracts his claws, standing up and smiling sheepishly. ]
Sorry. I didn't expect anyone to be here so I thought maybe someone broke in. You can stay, I don't mind. I'm sorry for waking you.

Nah, it's fine. Is everything alright? I'm a good listener if you need it.

[ Ren pets at his tail soothingly. ]
I really love her. So I panicked.

[Matt smiles, a bit of a fond expression.]
Anything I can do to help, I will. Pidge loves you that much, so really you're basically my brother.

That's...I... Thank you, Matt. That means a lot, actually. More than you could know.

[He smiles softly.]
But I mean it. Whatever you need, I'm here for you.

I'm assuming she told you the entire story of what happened when Dad and I disappeared?

[ Ren tucks his feet under him on the couch, relaxing back into the cushions. ]
I can't think of many girls who would fake an identity and start at a school to expose the government or whatever for a cover-up. It's like an anime.
